Database Articles

When linking to articles in databases, be sure to use the article's permalink rather than pulling the URL from your browser's address bar. In EBSCO databases, the permalink is located on the right side of an article's record page. In ProQuest databases, permalinks are referred to as "document URLs" and are located toward the end of the information Abstract/Details tab. JSTOR calls these links "stable URLs."

Note that all permalink URLs must begin with the following proxy prefix in order to allow remote access:

https://login.lib-proxy.usi.edu/login?url=

If a permalink does not automatically include this prefix, you can copy and paste it to the beginning of the URL. For a demonstration of how to add the proxy prefix and link to content in Blackboard, here is a VoiceThread demonstration on Linking to Library Resources.

Ebooks

If you wish to link to a full ebook, the easiest route is to add the fUSIon permalink to Blackboard. Once you have located an ebook in fUSIon:

  1. Select the book's title. This will open the book's record page.
  2. Select the permalink option toward the center of the record page.

  3. Copy the URL that appears.
  4. Paste into Blackboard as a Web Link (under Build Content)
